Duta Pamungkas journey with music and his lovely Marco has gone through a lot of thick and thin. Started to play guitar back in his junior high school, he admits that he can’t and he won’t stop ever since. From back then, he has implemented and developed his skills through various studies and occasions. He taught himself how to learn guitar and music writing skills.
This newly born album “Eschatological Friend” is mostly influenced by his journey in life. The first track on the album “Come With Me” attracts listeners to experience this journey first-hand. And then goes along until the last 12th track.
Surprisingly, Duta admits this album is mostly influenced by American-Folk genre. However, he also admits that he can not say he’s an American-folk practitioners, since his strong spiritual views and explorative reflections influenced a lot in his writings. It’s most likely a fresh air of genre in the realm of folkers – an experimental-folk ones.
If listeners could listen carefully, a lot of components run through this album. Strong guitar skills play a huge part, with tricky tempo and technique that is quite surprising. Another strong component and unique aspect that are quite distinctive is the string-section, fill in most of the tracks. This pinpoint some amount of newness in folk genre, since not so many folkers are using strings as one of an important facet in their works. Another surprising part is the vocalizing partition, which added a sweet yet grandiose spice. These components are all wrapped up gracefully in reflective lyrics that he wrote.
It’s worth awhile to take a few moment to listen to his album. We could learn a lot about life, about our own spiritual needs, about accepting the things we can not change. It’s how we lose ourselves to life. It’s about enjoying every taste and every breath in our life to acknowledge that life is worth to live for.
